Artist Statement

The artworks were created by two people: myself and I.

As my work is deeply rooted in my personal experience and emotion, it also reflects the person I used to be in the past and also the one I aspire to become at the moment. From my early years of serious pursuit in arts, I found myself fascinated and delved deep into the idea of finding my true self and identity crisis, which I previously suffered from but tended to neglect its existence. Until now, given the opportunity to tell the story, it still feels as if there are two different voices inside me urging to bring themselves to the light and air their thoughts.

In my creative practice, I use a variety of materials and techniques to experiment with different forms of visual storytelling and as a way to pressure myself out of my comfort zone and work flexibly with whatever resources is found around me. The more I challenge myself, the more pleasure I take from it as learning and growing intellectually is a way to remind myself that I am still capable of more, and that I should never take myself for granted.

As an artist, I wish to use my creative practice as a means of exploring and expressing my innermost thoughts, as well as the complexities of the human experience when going through such phases of struggles and triumphs. Through my work, I aim to create a safe space for vulnerability where people are free to choose who they can/ will be, as art is not just a form of self-expression, but also a tool for self-discovery and self-acceptance where you are able to transform, to heal, and to connect to our deepest selves.
