Cubism, mixed media photo, and sculpture are used in the Nothing New project to tell a personal story of insecurity. The project was inspired by a Taylor Swift’s song lyric, which deeply touched me as an artist and reminded me of the pain and hardships they faced during a breakup. The lyric “Will you still want me when I am nothing new?" is a depiction of the my insecurities and the ugliness I felt within. I was scared that my flaws and weaknesses would be exposed and that my partner would lose interest and leave me. In the end, I was the one who ended the relationship due to my own self-doubts and self-hatred.
However, leaving the relationship marked the beginning of a self-love journey for myself. The Nothing New project features two artworks that depict the my own emotional stages: Depression and Acceptance. The Depression artwork reflects the stages and journey of the relationship, while Acceptance represents my fulfillment after learning to reflect on themselves, deal with their insecurities, and accept all their sides. Through Nothing New, the artist hopes to inspire others about the journey of self-love, acceptance, and confidence. The journey to acceptance is long and hard, but it's a crucial lesson that everyone must learn.
