Artist Statement
As I delved into my latest project, I contemplated my sense of self and how art could serve as a potent medium for expressing it. To me, my personal identity is rooted in raw emotion, representing my truest self. In these two pieces, I explored the theme of disconnection within my family during my childhood. I conveyed the emotions of sadness and isolation that engulfed a young child waiting for his parents, as well as the fear of judgment and ridicule from those around me. By using bold brushstrokes, a vibrant color palette, divergent ideas, and artistic inspiration from surrealist Salvador Dali, I told these stories of my past.
These experiences have shaped me into the person I am today - someone who is introspective and reserved when interacting with others. However, I have come to accept these aspects as valuable lessons and essential parts of my life's journey. I embrace them as opportunities for growth and strive for self-improvement each day.
Although my freshman year's artworks only represent a starting point for my growth, I am confident that my development will continue well beyond these initial pieces as I progress through my studies and pursue a future career. As a youngster, I often found myself alone at home, waiting for my parents. The experience left me feeling isolated and cold, and over time, I became comfortable with my solitude.
