The Artistic Expression of Social Anxiety and Fear through the Eyes of Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch's artistic style was known for its swift brushstrokes and use of color to convey raw emotions. Inspired by his work, I created a series of paintings that depict my own struggles with social anxiety and panic in public.
“Wandering Eyes” portrays the feeling of being watched and judged by multiple eyes. These eyes are soulless and can detect fear in the subject. The longer you look into them, the more insecure and inadequate you feel.
"Human" represents my fear and anxiety when faced with large crowds. Using Edvard Munch's signature color style, warm tones such as yellow, orange, and red are used to depict confusion, anxiety, insecurity, and a sense of mobility. The subject's eyes are wide with worry and stress.
"Watching” conveys the constant pressure and stress of being watched. The eyes in this painting are depicted using cold, icy tones that symbolize depression and loneliness.
Just as Edvard Munch used his art to express his own emotions, I hope my paintings can help others connect with and understand the complexities of social anxiety and fear.
